Treasure Hunters – The Wonders of Pedernales Falls

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, my husband and I took the scenic route on our way home through the hill country of Texas.  The Pedernales Falls State Park sign lead us on a treasure hunt down a narrow, winding road, guarded by brush and lots of cacti.  The natural treasure we discovered at Pedernales was breathtaking!

But wait!  Where were the falls?  Well – for now – these are Pedernales DRY Falls.  Due to the severe drought in Texas, the large falls became just a trickle.  Not to worry though, the falls will return.

Here’s a pic of the falls at a normal level…

Wow!  What a difference!  My husband and I definitely want to come back when there is more water here.  Here’s another pic of the falls at flood stage. It was taken just five minutes after the picture above.  “The Pedernales River running through the park can flash flood with little or no warning. The water in the river can rise from a placid stream to a raging torrent in a few minutes.” TPWD quote.

That’s amazing!  After looking at the flash flood warnings, I was glad it was a bright and beautiful day for exploring!  Join us on the rest of this adventure as we explore the falls area and discover more treasures!

 Psalm 29:10
The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever.

Adventure to be continued…
