Book Review by Kim Jones
This book dives into adventure from the very beginning! Opening with a thrilling fishing trip that leads to a high speed boat chase, the action immediately captures the reader’s attention!
The Plot: The Murphy teens travel with their father to the Peace River in Florida, to a dig site. Something astonishing is discovered that could rock the scientific world, as well as the Murphy’s faith – The Missing Link! The Murphys encounter one mystery after another about this discovery, as well as many challenges to their faith in this action packed story.
A Page Turner! Mystery and adventure is woven skillfully throughout the book. An encounter with an alligator, a kidnapping, a lost treasure and more, will keep readers turning the pages rapidly.
The Real Treasures: Also woven skillfully throughout this book are lessons in good character, faith, and science.
1. Good Character – The Murphy teens treat each other and others with respect – even though they encounter some situations that make it hard to do so. (I love this! Good examples of kids treating their family and others with respect and kindness are hard to find in the media.)
2. Faith – The Murphy teens encounter life threatening situations that could shake their faith. However, they meet these challenges with prayer and faith in God.
3. Science – This book very skillfully discusses many main concepts in the Creation vs. Evolution debate. It is done conversationally, and in a very captivating and interesting manner. While the book is fiction, the evidence for Creation presented in the book is great science.
I really enjoyed reading this book! I read it twice, and enjoyed reading it the second time even more than the first. I believe that teens will find it an interesting, exciting and fun read. Packed with tons of treasure for the heart, soul, and mind, this book is well worth the investment!
** A Literature Study Guide that helps young writers study literary techniques in a fun way is also available with, “The Missing Link: Found.” Filled with thought-provoking questions, vocabulary and pictures, this guide digs in deeper to literature and science. It’s an ideal addition to a unit on writing, literature or science!
Note: Christina and Felice have written two other books in this series which I will be reviewing at a later time. Felice is the president of Media Angels, Inc. Media Angels is a publishing company dedicated to serving the needs of Christian parents, students, teachers, and those interested in writing. Christina, Felice’s daughter, was only 15 when she helped write this book.
